Calvary Temple Kids Chapel

A Special Missionary Visit

A Special Missionary Visit

Whenever Pastor Forbe comes into town from Kenya the first question my son Max asks me is, “Can Pastor Forbe do chapel?”

That question caused me to remember back when I was kid in Children’s Ministry at Calvary Temple. Pastor Star R. Scott, our senior pastor, has always had a heart for missions. He would talk to us over the years of his desire to see souls saved, to see brands plucked out of the fire and engrafted into the vine. In bible college, Pastor Scott minored in Missions and that heart is evident in all that Calvary Temple does oversees today throughout the 30+ churches that are associated with us in the nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

When I was in children’s church, Pastor Scott would have missionaries come and visit with us. We would hear stories of great missionary endeavors from our teachers and children’s church coordinators. We would hear of many men of God, but one man that stood out to me at that time was Willard Cantelon. His life story of being a man solely set apart for God caused me to sit on the edge of my seat as a child and say in my heart “I want to be like that!”

Mr. Cantelon was a man who held onto nothing in the natural. Whether it was his money, his time, his life; nothing was his. He memorized large portions of the scripture as young man. He traveled the world and started churches. He had encountered presidents, heads of states, ambassadors, and the list could go on and on. Wherever he was he was a instrument for God. I remember as a young boy meeting Mr. Cantelon. That was a special time. He bent over and lowered himself to my level and shook my hand. Even though he was an accomplished man, he took the time to make a little child feel special.

Mr. Cantelon saw Pastor Star Scott as his pastor. In many letters that I have had the privilege to read, Mr. Cantelon mentioned his gratitude for “his pastor”. He would remark on how blessed he was by the teachings and the guidance that Pastor Scott would offer him. I have been blessed to meet Mr. Cantelon and know my Pastor, two great men of God. What a great heritage Father has blessed me with.

Max stood there waiting for my answer. He asks again, “Dad, can Pastor Forbe do chapel? PPLLLEEEEAAAASSSEEEE!” I looked at him and said “Of course.” He was so excited. Hopefully as Pastor Forbe shared his heart with them during chapel, Max sat on the edge of his seat and said “I want to be like that!”

Hearing Pastor Forbe’s song, “I’m Happy Today, So Happy” reminds me of being in Africa. What a nice surprise when watching the video!
