The Greatest Day in a Parent’s Life

The Greatest Day in a Parent’s Life

I was in the midst of a whirlwind of work: meetings, projects, classes, book editing, you name-it. My phone sitting on my desk begins to vibrate notifying me of a text that was coming through. I didn’t look at it at first because of the busy-ness around me. Finally, coming to a time of break in the work, I glanced down at my phone and saw this message from my wife, “This is so precious babe”. From the screen all I see is the door to my daughter’s bedroom cracked open. Inside I am laughing to myself thinking, “What princess themed, Disney Frozen inspired, Cinderella dressed, baby-carriaged thing is going on in that room?” I clicked on the video and was greeted with this:

After watching the video, I was reminded again what the real important matters in life really are. My heart was very blessed and excited to see and hear that. In chapel we have been talking about the need to be born again for so many weeks. What was as exciting as my daughter’s prayer, was my son being concerned for his sister and her eternal state. We need our kids taking this Word of God seriously and believing nothing else. Nothing else in this world is as important as souls, especially the ones in our home. Dads and Moms, your most important job is your care for the souls in your house. Is the environment in your house one that promotes the truth of God’s Word, does it promote quietness and times of prayer? Not a legalistic, “Son you must have 4 hours in prayer”; but a practical leadership by example to where they see Dad and Mom on their knees. They know there is a time and a place in the house Dad goes to hear from God. They know to keep their voice down on that side of the house. Why? Because Dad needs to hear from God. That environment, and that example will bring about the fruit of kids loving the presence of God.

Isaiah 44:3-5 (KJV) 3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: 4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. 5 One shall say, I am the Lord’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

If we will seek Father with our whole hearts, if we will get quiet to hear from Him on how to parent, on how to be a witness, on how to be a lover of Truth; that visitation will make a environment that will affect the next generation. It is no guarantee that our kids will make it, our kids have their own choice to make, but it gives them the best chance to make it. “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) It starts with you!
